DirecTV Premium Video On Demand Service ‘Home Premiere’ Unveiled – Available April 21

DirecTV has officially put the rumors to rest as it launched its Home Premiere, premium video on demand service, exclusive to DirecTV subscribers on Thursday, April 21. The Home Premiere launch will feature the Sony Pictures film ‘Just Go with It’ starring Adam Sandler and Brooklyn Deckler. The movie was originally released on February 11, almost two months now after it’s release, it will be the first film featured on the Home Premiere service. DirecTV plans to offer movies to its satellite TV subscribers just 60 days after a movie premieres in theaters and much earlier than its DVD debut, giving consumers an added perk to choosing DirecTV services. Four major movie studios are participating in the premium VOD offerings provided by DirecTV, including: Twentieth Century Fox, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Brothers and Universal Pictures. There have not been specified Home Premiere release dates on the three films to follow the ‘Just Go with It’ premium VOD launch, those movies are: ‘The Adjustment Bureau,’ ‘Hall Pass’ and ‘Cedar Rapids.’

Theater owners in particular, are most concerned about the loss in sales from premium VOD movies offered by DirecTV under Home Premiere. According to the Los Angeles Times, the person in charge of DirecTV’s Home Premiere, Derek Chang, commented on the controversial rumors that has swarmed the media over the last few weeks, saying that: “This gives the movie new life in between existing windows, [and that] it’s hard to say we’re going to be taking revenue from movies that aren’t even playing in theaters.”

The ‘Just Go with It’ video on demand flick will cost subscribers $29.99 in order to rent it and watch it for an unlimited amount of times in 48 hours. Although the price might seem a little hefty, I suppose you can always charge your house guests at the door (kidding of course). Just think about how much you would spend to take the entire family to the movie theater, it makes the price of the Home Premiere movie somewhat comparable, if not, cheaper.
